| Balachandra Menon’s blues
Versatile actor-director Balachandra Menon is angry and unhappy today. His latest film,
`De Ingottu Nokkiye,’ has fallen flat, leaving him a shattered man.
Menon says the mischief is played by the distributor who got 20 minute film slashed from his 2.35 minute flick. It was the main reason for its failure. He says the film he saw in its original form in Kozhikode was all right, but what he saw in Kochi was a mutilated form. Same thing happened elsewhere. No wonder it could not stick on.
Menon says it’s crime to chop off a film after it was censored. It could never be legally done without the consent of the producer and the director.

But, in this case, he was not informed. Earlier, the distributor ( Dubai-based) had suggested cutting the film duration to 2 hours but Menon had pointed out the dangers of cutting scenes. The story will appear disjoined, he told the distributor, and that is what happened now.
`Many have telephoned me complaining they could not get the thread of the story’, he told in an interview to a leading Malayalam daily. According to Menon, there were many attempts to torpedo his film from the date of releasing it. He will disclose all this at an appropriate time.
