| Mammootty plays a ruthless money lender in Parunthu

In Padma Kumar's Parunthu,
Mammootty plays
a ruthless money lender. He is brutal in his dealings
also. He has his own justification for his actions
but is a realistic and practical man. He is nicknamed
as Gillette Purushothaman. Later, he realises that
there is more to life than money.
The story takes place in and around Kozhikode, where there are several local money lenders who charge high rates of interest. For instance, like certain private banks, these moneylenders too whisk away vehicles, when the owners fail to pay back the loans on time.
Dismissing rumours that there is a resemblance between
the Mohanlal-starrer
Madambi and Parunthu, Padma Kumar said the two characters
bear no resemblance whatsoever.

Lakshmi
Rai plays the female lead in the film. Her character,
Rakhi, is the daughter of a Gujarati businessman (Jagathy
Sreekumar). The cast includes Jayasurya, Cochin Haneefa
and Jayan.
Alex Paul is the music director while Sanjeev Shankar
wields the camera. T A Razak is the scenarist of Parunthu.
Parunthu is being produced by Howly Pottur under the
banner of Dream Team Productions.
